GET A BAYWATCH BODY TO RIVAL THE STARS THIS SUMMER

by cognizance

With summer just around the corner, it’s time to think about sun, sea, sand and, more importantly, getting the beach body of your dreams in time for the holidays. If your physique doesn’t quite compare with that of Dwayne Johnson’s or Zac Efron’s, stars of the new Baywatch movie, why not take some tips from the actors themselves?

In recent months the cult TV series has been reinvented as a blockbuster movie, due for release in May 2017. The male and female stars of the movie have been filmed in their best shape yet as they portray lifeguards in prime physical nick.

Keep reading to find out more about the fitness and nutrition regimes of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Zac Efron and Alexandra Daddario, who impress with their fit figures in Baywatch, and be inspired to hone your own beach body over the next few months.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson

Actor and wrestler Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is already known for his buff physique but the 43-year-old pulled out all the stops while training for the Baywatch movie, taking on an unforgiving obstacle course that combined elements of Ninja Warrior and World’s Strongest Man. Johnson said the idea behind the course was to be “physically and mentally tested to the limits, all while staying focused and being as calm as possible in extremely stressful situations so you’re always able to accomplish the most important thing – hit the water and make the save”.

The Rock reportedly hits the gym six days a week for a couple of hours each session, split between cardio and weightlifting, and his busy filming schedule means the actors has been getting up at 4am to work out. All that exercise gives Johnson quite an appetite it seems – he consumes about 5,000 calories a day over seven meals.

Zac Efron

Barely recognisable from his High School Musical days, Zac Efron made major changes to his diet and fitness regimes for the new Baywatch movie, including consuming around 3,200 calories per day and cutting our carbs and sugar. Protein accounted for 40 per cent of each meal, helping the actor put on many pounds of pure muscle and improve his body condition.

As well as joining The Rock in his gruelling obstacle course, Efron hit the gym five days each week for up to two hours per session, where he used compound movements like squats, deadlifts, pull-ups and bench presses to build strength and increase bulk. Shorter reps, longer rests between sets and intensity enhancers were all techniques used by the 28-year-old to achieve his shredded look, fast.

Alexandra Daddario

The 30-year-old model and actress had the unenviable task of pulling off the distinctive red swimsuit for the forthcoming movie, so, how did she manage it? Daddario says she made changes to her nutrition by cutting out little luxuries like wine and cheese to become leaner. Exercise also played a part but, unlike her male co-stars, the lithe beauty didn’t ramp up the deadlifts, turning to yoga to boost her fitness levels and become more limber without losing her feminine shape.

Daddario says she’s enjoyed yoga for years, both for the physical and mental benefits, and has also taken spin classes during her training for Baywatch. Walking is another favourite fitness activity for the brunette, who takes her dog out on long walks for exercise.
